Face Recognition: A Critical Look at Biologically-Inspired Approaches
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper analyzes the merits of two biologically-inspired face recognition models, eigenfaces and graphmatching, in the context of related neurophysiological and psychophysical data. Given the ambiguity of current biological evidence, a more promising direction for future face recognition research is in the development of models that conform more closely to human perception of facial similarity. c 2000 Carnegie Mellon University

An Evaluation of the Invariance Properties of a Biologically-Inspired System for Unconstrained Face Recognition
A key challenge in building face recognition systems — biologically-inspired or otherwise — is evaluating performance. While much of face recognition research has traditionally used posed photographs for evaluation, recent efforts have emerged to build more naturalistic, unconstrained test sets by collecting large numbers of face images from the internet (e.g. the “Labeled Faces in the Wild”(LF...
متن کاملFace Recognition in Complex Background: Developmental Network and Synapse Maintenance
As an important sub-field in computer vision and pattern recognition, face recognition has important theoretical and practical application. It is a very complicated problem which is often affected by variations in illumination condition, head pose, facial emotions, glasses, beards, and so on. 108 face images of 27 learned objects (appearances) from complex backgrounds in BioID face database are...
متن کاملFace Recognition by Humans:
The human visual system is remarkably proficient at the task of identifying faces, even under severely degraded viewing conditions. A grand quest in computer vision is to design automated systems that can match, and eventually exceed, this level of performance. In order to accomplish this goal, a better understanding of the human brain’s face processing strategies is likely to be helpful. With ...
متن کاملBiologically inspired 3D face recognition from surface normals
A major consideration in state-of-the-art face recognition systems is the amount of data that is required to represent a face. Even a small (64×64) photograph of a face has 2 dimensions in which a face may sit. When large (> 1MB) photographs of faces are used, this represents a very large (and practically intractable) space and ways of reducing dimensionality without losing discriminatory infor...
متن کاملExamplers based image fusion features for face recognition
Examplers of a face are formed from multiple gallery images of a person and are used in the process of classification of a test image. We incorporate such examplers in forming a biologically inspired local binary decisions on similarity based face recognition method. As opposed to single model approaches such as face averages the exampler based approach results in higher recognition accuracies ...
